Martha Says Farewell to Artistic Gymnastics in Style…

Senior gymnast Martha Cooney marked the end of her Competing career in Artistic Gymnastics with two Silvers and one Gold at the Hampshire Out of Age Levels this weekend.

Competing in the Level 4 14+ category, Martha came second overall, second on Beam and First on Vault, adding to a medal collection that she has been building for the last 7 years competing in Artistic Gymnastics and Tumbling.  Martha decided to hang up her hand-guards after this competition to concentrate on Acrobatic Gymnastics.

Martha has enjoyed a great career in Artistic Gymnastics, achieving Grade 8 and qualifying for several Regional competitions along the way.  She will be missed from the Artistic Squad but we know she has a lot to give and get out of the new challenge of Competitive Acrobatics.

Scores: Vault - 11.55, Bars - 10.00, Beam - 9.3, Floor - 10.4, Total - 41.25

Well this may have been Martha's final Artistic event but for some of our gymnasts, today saw their introduction to the Levels Competition arena.  Young gymnasts from the Women's Artistic Squad competed at Level 5 and produced some great routines and results.  With the new code placing additional emphasis on 'artistry' the gymnasts have begun to learn performance skills that will lift their routines and their performances today reflected this well.

The Squad are also saying a sad goodbye to one of their members this Summer as she prepares to go to a new school.  Cayla will be taking up a place at Port Regis School where she will be able to enjoy Gymnastics to her hearts content...  We all wish her the best at her new school and hope she will come and visit us when she is home!
